Virginia Pumpkin Festival 2011
Soon after our Pumpkin Festival in Southampton the two biggest pumpkins (1334lbs and 1173lbs) went on their travels to Virginia Pumpkin Festival in County Cavan Ireland http://virginia.ie/ where they were greeted as Pumpkin royalty and met up with Pumpkins from all over Ireland, Germany. They were collected by a gigantic Virginia Freight lorry and took in a ferry voyage and trip of 1000 miles there and back from their homes in Wareham and Lymington!
At Southampton Pumpkin festival's twinning partner Virginia, County Cavan's annual Pumpkin Festival, there was fierce but friendly competition between the home crowd and their pumpkins and the others to see how close in weight the Irish pumpkins were to the well travelled visitors.
The German Pumpkins proved stiff opposition but couldn't match the UK pumpkins. The Baggs pumpkin had lost 14 lbs in the two weeks since the Southampton festival and the Patons had lost 18lbs.
